Alloy 405 Stainless Steel Overview
Alloy 405 is a 12% chromium stainless steel specifically designed for use in the as-welded condition. Unlike other 12% chromium stainless grades, 405 is not vulnerable to extensive hardening through air cooling from high temperatures.

Corrosion Resistance
Provides the same corrosion resistance as Type 410 steel, with enhanced weldability for applications requiring superior joining capabilities.
Machinability
Type 405 can be easily machined due to its soft and ductile characteristics, making it ideal for precision manufacturing applications.
Weldability
Can be welded using shielded fusion and resistance techniques. Oxyacetylene welding is not recommended. Post-weld annealing will maximize ductility and performance.
